Ahoy there friends, family, and supporters! Is this an actual timely journal post? Yes! I found some time in my crazy busy life to update my website!
Now, not much has happened since my June update: 1. I was able to attend my best friend's wedding (@Cutie0Mutie, an up and coming Twitch streamer) and actually perform my Maid of Honor duties in person! 2. My mural piece for The Mural Project created and hosted by Katharsis Media went up for auction! 3. I've been completing some commissions and have been making plans to finally start my comic project lovingly dubbed "Sunset City" and have been cementing my plans in starting an active Twitch channel. I have plans to leave GameStop in hopes of getting a position with an airline or hopefully something not geared towards sales and retail. I love my job at GameStop, however, I do need a change in my life right now and don't like to stay stagnant. Like a shark, I gotta keep swimming! So hopefully in August I'll have more to update you on! With that quick little update, I am signing off! Thanks for tuning in and I hope you have a good one!

It's certainly been a while hasn't it?I have a few good reasons for my absence the past year! Here's a short version of the short version:
April 2020: Coping and adapting to Quarantine life, working on commissions, playing lots of Animal Crossing, and watching A LOT of 80's action movies. May 2020: Online school and back to working at GameStop June - December 2020: Working, half-online school and half on-campus school. Christmas break saw me moving to New Mexico and in with my mom. January - June 2021: Transferred to another GameStop with my same position, started (and completed) a wooden piece for a Mural Project with Katharsis Media (a local Albuquerque non-profit), got contracted as an Art/Comics teacher for kids K-5 at Katharsis Media, started working out more, hit my 500+ follower milestone on Instagram, and I just got my second dose of Pfizer! Now, I'm planning and preparing for my trip to go see my best friend in Texas for her wedding (and I am the Maid of Honor). Somethings I hope to do by the end of this year are: 1. Start up Twitch streaming! I have a bunch of ideas for what I want to do which includes gaming, art, and possibly doing some fitness activities on there. 2. Work on fleshing out and updating my website a bit. I definitely need to keep up with posting updates here, but I'm doing fairly good with updating on social media! 3. I hope to get more involved with the creative community here in Albuquerque. So when the city starts opening up and the COVID cases lower, I want to start up volunteering again! When I did it in Alaska, it felt so freeing to help others and it was also for good causes. With these intentions set, that concludes my update for the missed time from last year until now! To whoever is reading this, I hope you have a great day and accomplish what you need to! WOWZER! It's been awhile since I last updated this journal! Sorry about that!
Here's the skinny:
With this new time on my hands because of school going online and me being jobless for at least a month due to the quarantine, MY COMMISSIONS ARE OPEN! Please help spread the word that I'm looking for some clients, that would be much appreciated. Anyway, I hope you all are staying safe out there, practicing social-distancing, and trying to keep your sanity! We're all in this together and we'll pull through. Sincerely, Me So, looks like I missed the update for December, but I'll summarize! Not too much has happened since then! DECEMBER: - I was accepted as an official artist to do a themed sketchbook for The Brooklyn Art Library Sketchbook Project 16th Volume. The theme will be "Monsters in Moments" and it will be available for viewing at the library and also digitized for their online collection! The deadline for me to finish and postmark it is August, so I'll be trying to draw a couple spreads a month. - I've started making and posting up speedpaints/timelapses of some digital work as well. They're up on both my Youtube and Facebook, if you want to check those out! They're only for fun right now because I don't think I'll get much traction on it, but I do really enjoy making them! JANUARY: Alright folks!! Now here's the good stuff! - With the editing and proofing of the scripts for my comic series Sunset City coming to a close, I am now able to say that I am going to start roughing and completing whole pages for it! I will be announcing a Patreon for those who want to support me in keeping up with it on a consistent basis and want to have certain perks and credits along with that. - I've also recently been promoted to a permanent part-time position at GameStop, so that's fun! I really love the job and have tons of fun with my coworkers, which I believe is what makes it the best. - Another important thing to mention is that I have signed up for websites called 99Designs, Fiverr, and Envato. So my hopes are that this will help me build my design portfolio more. - And finally, the last update. As of now, I am working with the talented music artist Panda King (check his stuff out here and here!) on some Promo and Track Art. So, keep an eye out for that! It should be coming out near the end of the month with his new track release! Anyway, thank you for reading. I hope your start of the year is wonderful and you have many good things planned! May Lady Luck smile on you all! Now, I'll leave you with some Emoji Character Requests I've completed:
It's November everyone! I'd like to update this journal before I get super busy and miss it. I have a lot of things planned for the month: - I'll be going to California for a joint birthday road trip with my mom! So my social media will be a little dead from Nov. 16-25. - I will be working the seasonal post at the biggest GameStop in my town so, I'll be pretty busy with Black Friday and everything leading up to. - I landed a contract with Alaska Nature Designs, to which I'll be focusing on their designs over everything else. Which means my own personal projects and possibilities of opening commissions will be put on the backburner... for now. Moving on, I managed to finish Inktober this year- not on time- but still! I'm super happy and proud since I've been trying to complete the month since High School.. so for at least 6 years! The compilation of said work is in the .PDF download below and some highlights of the prompts I'm really proud of are in the little slideshow down there too. I'm thinking of having the original papers bound and maybe selling it as a zine, but we'll see! I think that's all I have for an update right now, but if anything else comes up, I'll definitely be sure to post it here in my next entry. Stay Cool, Mercedes P.S. Hello Everyone! I'm trying to keep my updates at least every month to let you know how and what I've been doing: 1.) I've recently finished a couple commissions and am considering opening up some slots again. Below this entry are going to be new artworks for you to peruse! 2.) I'm working on Inktober this year and going to aim for completing it! Although, it's most likely that I won't finish on time, I'm still aiming to complete it this year, so wish me luck! 3.) I've recently been brought on for the Seasonal hiring at Gamestop, which has me super excited to be able to talk about video games for money. My current favorite series (Fire Emblem) came out recently and I jumped at buying and playing it! Great games from them like always! I, of course, chose Black Eagles as my team and am absolutely in love with every character and the story in itself. I definitely recommend it to anyone who's interested in it for either watching a Let's Play or playing it themselves. 4.) I've been super busy with school work, but one thing I wanted to mention was my semester research project for my English 102 class. I am researching the Psychological Effects of Horror Movies and How They Reflect Modern Societal and Cultural Fears. I've been watching a lot of horror movies, so be prepared for some fanart! If my paper receives a good grade, I might post it here for you all to read. It'll be a short 4-5 page paper if I'm not mistaken. 5.) And finally, I've just (maybe even an hour ago) finished recording for a Drawing Session Podcast hosted by my good friend GoProKyo. He's an old classmate of mine who also does art and design! I definitely recommend you check his website and Youtube out! Soooo, I think that's about all I've been up to for a month... I've changed my phone number and updated my phone to an iPhone 11? But you don't really need to hear all about that haha. Take care and happy travels, Everyone! Hello there! Welcome to my newest post in the Journal portion of my site! Thank you for caring enough to read these haha. I do have a few updates for you: 1.) I've settled into Henderson, Nevada now and am working my best at school (although I only have general classes now, I am shooting for straight A's this semester) 2.) I got hired on in July to work and design remotely for a business called Alaska Nature Designs. You should check them out. They have some neat photography on merchandise and we're working on putting out more products and designs, so stayed tunes ;) 3.) I've only been taking commissions on a case-by-case basis because of the work load I have with other clients and with homework, but I should be opening them back up fully again when I have more time (I'm estimating Late September/Early October if all goes according to plan) 4.) I have a lot more original ideas and merchandise from my store I'm wanting to share, so stay tuned! My Instagram and Facebook will be the most up to date with announcements and the like So, I think that's it for the time being! Thanks for sticking with me and I'll leave you now with a cool slideshow of some recent works I'm proud of. 'Til next time! Hello Everyone! I've been quite a busy bee these past few weeks and here's what I've been up to: I haven't been to the O'Malley Castle Market in a while because I got a weekend job at the Century 16 theater! It's been super fun and mostly everyone there has been awesome and made me feel like a welcomed new employee. I do attend the market some days when I have a later shift at the theater, but mostly I haven't been able to go :( so please stop by and show them some love! On another note, I recently got the opportunity to work on a project with the Airport Heights Community Council and the Mayor's Office (Municipality of Anchorage) to do some painting on trash cans as part of a prototype Anchorage ArtWay Initiative project. This was all thanks to Hope Meyn who reached out to me on the Nextdoor App and together we worked with the Mayor's Special Assistant George Martinez on bringing the project to reality! I attended a community picnic at Tikishla Park where we had the community vote on which design they'd like to see on a trash bin in the park! With my good friend Josh, we took two days out of the week and painted the design on a bin! At the bottom of this entry I've included the winning design and photos of the final outcome! George would like to work more with me on doing some installments around town before I leave for UNLV in late July, so here's to hoping I'll get the opportunity! As I said before, I've been busy! So that means I have another awesome instance to share, which is I've been brought on as a designer/photoshopper for an up and coming E-Commerce site in Alaska called "Alaska Nature Designs"! Right now, I'm doing the finishing touches on their logo and I should be working on other projects with the owner soon! Well, that's about all I can think of right now, other than those projects and a couple personal things I've put on hold, nothing's been too out of the norm. Physical therapy treatment for my spine is going well! Doc says my spine is aligning better and better! I probably won't update for a while again because I'll be busy with packing up stuff and moving down to Nevada soon! I hope everyone's lives are going well and wish you all the best luck in your endeavors! Sincerely, Mercedes Hello Friends!
So it's been a hot minute, I know, but I have some awesome news I'd like to share! I've recently moved back to Alaska for the summer and just got settled in (for the most part anyway...) I'm currently working on some prints and merch items because... drum roll please... I'll be selling things (mainly prints and stickers) at a weekly market called the O'Malley Castle Market! My first day having my own table will be May 4th, and let me tell you there'll be a cool event called May the Force Be With Cinco De Mayo that will have a lot of merch celebrating Mexican and Latinx culture. I plan on having a table there on a regular basis (at least every other week) and I'll be selling things with my good friend Moselle (who will also be selling her own art, so check her out!) and hopefully my good friend Paola later in June! Anyway, that's what has mostly been going on with me other than grinding some projects and working out, along with the other responsibilities in life (like groceries and job hunting). Until next time! Hey Everyone, as you can see... I've created a new and improved website!
What I'm mainly going to use this website for is keeping an online portfolio updated. I'll be using these blog entries for information on where I'm at, where I'll be, and what kind of projects I'm currently working on! Currently, I'm in between schools and staying in Alaska. I'm going to be attending the O'Malley Castle Weekend Markets, so come by and check it out! I plan on selling some art and doing some demos while looking for jobs and illustrator commissions/gigs. Projects I'm working on are: my superhero comic "Sunset City" that I'm writing the story for (and I'm almost done yeeeee!), my patreon Creator page (I'm trying to make a lot of art for and set it up still, and I plan on starting up the 100 heads challenge which is basically drawing 1 character head a day until 100 is reached. I want to start a lot of other projects, but I'll be mostly sticking to these three for now! Like I've said before, this is a living and breathing website/portfolio, so check back soon and you might just find something new! Thanks for reading! Signing Off, Mercedes |
